Gonna be May

April, thank you, while there has been some sadness you have also been a joy. And hello to May where summer is definitely icumen in (links to the British Library blog).

On the hob - work in progress

At the beginning of the month I ran the ‘Writing Bad Guys’ workshop for the Number One Writing Group at Rochdale Library. I’ve added one of the resources I made for this session to the Freebies section of this website.

I’ve been plugging on with Project Rec (links to Pinterest moodboard) on the recommendation that I just knock out a draft in between domestic duties and contractual obligations. (It would be lovely to write at work but, outside of Creative Writing club, I don’t think the students, nor my line manager, would appreciate it!) I have also been capturing ideas for a screenplay which will sit in Scrivener until I am ready to do some outlining. (Long term user of Scrivener here; it’s not as pretty for Windows users nor does it have an Android app so I’m in the market for other suggestions for elegant, writing management software / applications.)

Learning, always learning - CPD

In mid April, New Writing North ran a session for new and emerging script writers based in northern England. I went along with my friend Michelle and we found it useful and inspiring. I have written for stage so would love to work some of my previous work into something more dynamic whether that be visual or audio based. (This is definitely a longer term desire rather than an instant project!)

As a member of the Golden Egg Club I’ve been along to a few of the talks and webinars which are always insightful into what is going on in the children’s book world.

In terms of technical learning, as mentioned last month I’m working on learning DaVinci Resolve for editing videos. The latest video is here if you would like to wander over the YouTube and catch up on reading, writing, and crafting. I’ve included a creative writing exercise which you may wish to try at home :-)

Filling the well - replenishing creativity

I went to see Nadine Shah with my friend Gina at the end of the month at New Century Hall.

It’s also been a month, now that I’m part-time, of making soup and delicious, nutritious meals from scratch.

Finally, a friend of many other close friends died in the middle of April, hold your friends and family close. Take the risk, tell someone that you love them, seize the flipping day.

And I think that’s it for this month’s update.
